       Keys to better support

To cut through the maze of support for your computer, purchase a journal to document your changes and support calls.  Entries should consist of software changes/installations and service call records.  I can't tell you how many problems are related to software conflicts.  Each time you install or update any software application, note the date/time, software name and version.  If you log your support calls you'll have important information to refer back to when you encounter a similar problem.  It will also serve as an ability to answer the next support desk question when they ask, "What was done the last time you had this problem?"  I will tell you this journal or support log will provide documentation when you feel your services are not up to quality and you need to document your problem history.  I have personally seen a client drop his ISP (Internet Service Provider) and not have to pay an early disconnect fee because he had documented his support history.  I also saw a provider credit a client who experienced a series of service issues over a few months.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR  - Certification Magazine

 Learning Methods

I received my first copy of your GREAT magazine & have to say I enjoyed every word of it. My interest in your magazine stems from the need to keep my "saw sharpened". If I am going to learn the information, why not get recognition for achieving the skill.

I now have to ask you to address something for those of us looking for certification training. With the assumption that were not looking for "paper certifications", but true knowledge and understanding, what evaluation criteria would you hold to judge the providers out there.

Now, I understand that they provide your existence by funding your advertising but let's assume that we're talking about reputable training centers. To narrow the topic lets also say I am interested in two kinds of training:

Self study via computer based training that I can do at home on my schedule.
Attending training in residence that may involve instructor led training with varied courseware (multimedia, books).
What tools do you have for me to evaluate these training sources to help me make the right choice? If you ask what's important I would say:

Comprehensive learning of material (good retention after I pass the test);
Reputation - ethical school with professional foundation;
Valued education - materials & training are a good value for the cost.
Your magazine is "THE BEST", keep up the good work and from all of us "students" a sincere Thank You!
